Place Marcel Michaud
et 40 boulevard Louis Blanc (Cornil)
69400 Villefranche-sur-Saône
Founded in 1863, the municipal museum revived at the beginning of the 2000s thanks to the first work donation of Paul and Muguette Dini to the town of Villefranche-sur-Saône.
Housed in two restored historic buildings, the Paul-Dini museum presents a panorama of painting in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region from 1810 to the present day.
The Paul-Dini municipal museum has been a ‘Musée de France’ since 2003, and has two exhibition spaces: the Espace Grenette, the town's former grain market, and the Espace Cornil, a former textile factory.
Its collections comprise more than 1,400 works (mainly paintings, but also sculptures, photographs, drawings, etc.) spanning more than two centuries of pictorial art. The exhibition features works by artists who have lived or worked in the Rhône-Alpes region, which has more recently been extended to include the Auvergne. Through the prism of these local roots, the major national and international artistic movements are explored.
Thanks to its rich programme of events and exhibitions, the museum is now one of the most emblematic cultural venues in the town of Villefranche-sur-Saône.
On your own, with friends or as a family, come and (re)discover the wealth of the region's artistic heritage, using a range of activities to suit everyone. To make the most of the museum throughout the year, there are several ‘my museum’ passes available (adult, junior, family, details and practical information on the museum website).
The Paul-Dini municipal museum also has an art library, one of only forty in France. With an annual subscription, you can borrow original contemporary works (prints, photographs, canvases, drawings, etc.) to hang on your living room walls!
