The village where the story comes alive

Perched on a hill in the middle of vineyards, 50 kilometres from Lyon, Vaux-en-Beaujolais village invites you for a wine-tasting stop full of literary influences.

Indeed, the village of Vaux-en-Beaujolais was the source of inspiration for the writer Gabriel Chevallier when he wrote his novel "Clochemerle" in 1937, which was later published in an illustrated edition by Albert Dubout and subsequently translated into 26 languages!
This satirical comedy has since completely influenced the village. The protagonists of the play Ernest Tafardel, Baroness Alphonsine de Courtebiche, the Ponosse priest or the notary Girodot invite you to a family stroll through the village where La Pissotière, the central character in Gabriel Chevallier's novel, has a special place!
Follow the silhouettes from the centre of the village to the top of the Montée au Bal of Saint-Roch for a unique 360° panorama of the hillside vineyards of the Beaujolais-Villages appellation!
On the way down, you should not miss a stop at the winery or at the Cave de Clochemerle to taste a glass of Beaujolais wine and share a pleasant moment.
Vaux-en-Beaujolais or Clochemerle is a must-see on the Beaujolais Wine Route!
