The border between Burgundy and Beaujolais is so narrow that part of the Beaujolais vineyard is located in Saône-et-Loire. The Saint-Amour cru and part of the Moulin à Vent cru are located in the Burgundy region, on the other side of the Rhône Department.
This Department 71 is rich and diverse! There are so many places worth visiting such as Mâcon and its vineyards, the Charolais, Cluny, and La Roche de Solutré. They all merit a little escapade!
The Department is a land of wines, with around thirty AOCs that line the department from north to south, including the well-known Mercurey, Givry, Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint-Véran (not to be confused with our little village of the Pierres Dorées Saint-Vérand!). It is worth noting that since 2015, the Climats de Bourgogne have been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A land of tastes and producers, the Saône-et-Loire prides itself on its AOC Bresse chicken, Charolles beef, Mâconnais and Charolais cheeses, as well as Bresse butter and cream. Thanks to such products, it's only natural that it has such renowned chefs like Eric Pras, a three-star chef in the Michelin Guide!
Its rich history is worth a visit thanks to the classified sites such as the Abbey of Cluny, Tournus, Autun, the Route des Châteaux, the Chemins du Roman, etc. In short, it's a feast for the eyes!
Not far from the Beaujolais, you should not skip the Roche de Solutré classified as a Grand Site de France. It's a wonderful spot for photos, hiking, wines and fun activities!
Saône et Loire is also a nature destination whether on foot or by bike along the footpaths, the Voies Vertes and the Voie Bleue.
It is also a perfect playground for families with children! There are many activities to keep children busy and parents amused such as in the Touroparc Zoo and the Hameau Duboeuf in Romanèche-Thorins, the Parc des Combes in Le Creusot and the Grotte d'Azé!
