Les Carrières de Glay: a life-size geological history of the region
Les Carrières de Glay site, located just a short distance from the Beaujolais wine route and 30 minutes from Lyon, is classified as one of the protected natural areas of the Rhone. This Beaujolais Unesco Global Geopark offers its visitors an imposing face revealing the uniqueness of these rocks of sedimentary origin in the form of the ochre limestone from golden stones.
The stratification effect, visible to the naked eye, sheds light on the geology of the entire Beaujolais region. These ancient quarries, which were used for the construction of traditional buildings throughout southern Beaujolais, and which are now abandoned, can be visited freely all year round.
You can also go for a stroll along a footpath which goes all around.
Those who love picnics will find many ways to have a good time on this amazing site.
